The Post-Roman West
What the western provinces became when there was no longer anyone in Ravenna to send taxes to: Gothic, Vandal, Suevic and Lombard kingdoms governing Roman populations with Roman law and their own armies, none of them claiming to have replaced the empire and all of them behaving as though they had.
The line below is a time axis. Position on it is date, so concurrency is visible: concurrent polities sit side by side rather than in sequence.
7 sourced edges run between this region and another, to Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Carolingian Empire and Umayyad Caliphate. Those are not drawn on this line — a thread that crossed regions would assert a sequence nobody cited — but they are on each polity’s own page.
